Adopt a Family
Through Adopt a Family, community members “adopt” a local family during the holiday season and provide gifts for each child in the family, along with a gift card to a local grocery store for their caregiver. Every gift is wrapped and ready to open, so families can experience the simple joy of the holidays together.
Community members, families, businesses, churches, and other local groups can choose to adopt a family and shop for their gifts based on the family's needs and wish list.
You can help a family unwrap something to feel good about throughout this special time of year.
We work with local school administrators and our Sunshine and Seed community to identify families who could benefit most from a little extra support amidst this season of giving.
For each family we match with an adopter, we help provide:
two wrapped gifts for each child: one fun gift and one practical gift
a $100 gift card to a local grocery store for the caregiver
It’s a tangible way to turn generosity into something a child can hold and enjoy for the holidays.
Adopt a Family grew out of the same question that started the Estero Bay Kindness Coalition.
In 2017, our founder, Bobby deLancellotti, reached out to the principal at Del Mar Elementary in Morro Bay and simply asked, “How can I help?”
He learned that 64% of the students at the school were living below the poverty level, and he wanted to make the holidays a little brighter for those children and their families. That first holiday effort helped spark what would become the Estero Bay Kindness Coalition.
What began with a small group of families has grown into a community-wide effort to make sure local children and families know they are seen, supported, and cared for.
A practical gift can meet a real need. A fun gift can bring a little joy and help a local child feel the excitement of the holidays. And a gift card can give a caregiver the flexibility to choose what their family needs most and remind them that their community is here for them.
