Bags of Love

Bags of Love is a weekly food assistance program providing groceries to vulnerable families in Estero Bay. Through the program, we deliver 3 bags of food to 202 food-insecure families. With an average family size of 4, that's around 808 school kids and family members served each week.

Our food deliveries include 2 bags of protein-rich meals and snacks, including Stonehill grass-fed beef, Cal Poly eggs, and organic fruits and veggies. We discreetly deliver the bags to the doorsteps of each family’s home in consideration of their privacy.

Bags of Love evolved out of our Got Your Back program during the pandemic. Because local students experienced food insecurity over the weekends, we bridged the hunger gap by giving backpacks of food to under-resourced students every Friday. Over 100 students relied on the program for nutrition and support until pandemic school closures made distribution impossible.

In response, we created Bags of Love, going from feeding kids on the weekend to feeding whole families for a week. Virtually overnight, we pivoted from backpacks to grocery bags.

While the pandemic has ended, Bags of Love has continued, providing vulnerable families with nutritious meals. Every Wednesday and Thursday, our dedicated volunteers assemble in Morro Bay and Los Osos, unloading trucks, unpacking boxes, loading shelves, assembling grocery bags, loading them into cars and vans, and delivering to those we serve.

Our Bags of Love program helps students attending these local elementary and middle schools:
